So it started out a bit rough. When November began, I was feeling sick and miserable, I hated everything I wrote, and realized I was actually going to be extremely busy over the next week, and then I realized this was exactly how Nano started last year. November is a lousy month for this.

Despite my lovely long outline, I got stuck after only about 1000 words on the first day. I didn't write anything the second day, and on the third day I was still stuck so I thought I'd quit, but then I started writing something else and ended up writing 3500 words that evening.

So I've completely thrown out the first 1000 words and scraped my lovely outline. At least the thing I'm writing is in the same fandom (Doctor Who), but I have no idea where it's going. I'll probably get stuck after 10K and start cursing myself for abandoning the outline. I'm trying to avoid this by making the set-up as long as possible so I have time to figure out what the actual plot is.

Anyway, about a day behind but catching up. Here's my favourite part so far:

There were also a few surprises. A couple of the drawers were empty when they shouldn't have been. One drawer contained a ringtailed lemur and another only a pineapple. Jack scratched his head in confusion when he saw the pineapple unable to decide whether it was an alien in a very clever disguise or left over from a particularly drunk New Year's eve party three decades ago. He decided to leave it for the moment. They could always dissect and/or eat it later.
